As a landscape designer I became involved in numerous gardening projects in small towns and farming communities. During my visits to these charming places, I received warm hospitality and sincere interest in gardening from the local residents. Everyone was eager to show me their gardens. They had questions and were hungry for feedback. I loved the interaction and with the support and help of sponsors, we started road shows.

A road show usually runs over four days, typically from Thursdays to Saturdays.

During the first two days, I visit the gardens of those who requested a consultation. This is a personal visit during which the specific garden is discussed in detail. Garden design, possible water features, plant suggestions and irrigation methods are examples of what is spoken about during these visits.

The third day I spend with garden workers. As they are the ones who actually work in the gardens, I consider it vital to educate and assist them as much as possible. I present a course to them on various topics such as garden tool maintenance, the importance of clear employer – employee communication, planting methods, watering and irrigation. At the end of this course, every garden worker is awarded with a certificate of completion.

The last day is spent with a large number of garden enthusiasts and sponsors. Topics that are relevant to the specific area and gardens in the community are discussed and the sponsors and I do presentations on various subjects such as garden planning, different types of plants and seeds, and best practice. This day is an interactive one, questions are answered and any topics of interest are explored. It’s celebrated with a lively lunch and a lucky draw.

The road show is divided into these three categories mentioned above and anyone interested can register and enroll for all three components or for one or two depending on your individual requirements.
